As a newcomer to Yoga you may be overwhelmed by the sheer volume of information and “newness” of it all…
This page should help orient yourself and provide some of the basics :o)
Tip: When you see a word underlined with dots, hold your mouse over it for more info!
Please appreciate that there are different styles of yoga, and, within these styles there may be variations, this page will help you become more comfortable at Yoga-Tribe, but, is by no means a definitive guide to all Yoga classes offered by other teachers.
Finding your voice
Many classes start with some form of basic chanting, at the most basic level we chant “ ” (sounds like AUM).
Any chanting is optional, if you want to become more comfortable with the sound of your own voice as you chant, then feel free to practice on your own, maybe whilst driving!
Taking a deep breath in through your nose, as you begin to exhale vocalise the “O” sound, let the shape of your lips determine the change in sound ending with your lips together forming the “M” sound… during the chant you should feel the vibration of the sound inside the body cavity.
Sun Salutations – Surya Namaskar
Sun salutations are the bread and butter of many classes, as a newcomer this is one of the easiest combinations of postures to become familiar with, even if you’ve been practicing for a while and are pressed for time, a few rounds of Sun Salutations is better than not getting a practice in at all!
The little Yoga-Tribe Elves are still working on this page, more to follow soon!
